Wait......I have a blog???
Ok. So I have been neglecting my blog for quite some time. But it's that time again for me to rant a little. I need to warm up some so this isn't going to be one of my fun rants but just a short one. So everyone knows about the current situation with the subprime mortgage mess. I'm sure you remember a few years ago when everyone was saying how good the economy was and everyone was buying houses? But do you remember it was the Democrats in congress that started pushing to force mortgage companies to provide these risky mortgages to people who might not be ready or able to afford a home in the long term? They said that everyone deserves to own their own home but is that really true? I think we can see with the current state of things that that might not be true. Trying to make everything fair by trying to regulate businesses and force them to do things that they know are not in their best interest isn't exactly the way to keep an economy going. So there you have it. The government almost single handedly caused this current mortgage crisis and now people are blaming so called greedy mortgage companies. Oh well, so it goes.
Now if you have read my blog before you know I'm kind of a bastard about the robin hood society we live in now. I'm all for private giving but when the government comes in and forcibly takes money from people to give to other people to try to make things "fair" I have a problem with it. Now I am a bit torn right now. The government causes a crisis that is messing with the economy so they should have to fix it. This might be one of the few instances where I see a government bail out as the right thing to do. They will no doubt screw it up and make it cost much more than it needs to but it is their responsibility. Now the problem is that instead of tightening their purse strings they will start taking more and more away from people who are going to help the economy. Yes, those high income / net worth people are the ones that create jobs and that is what is going to jumpstart this economy. Have you ever gotten a job from a poor person?
Every year the government tries to slip all sorts of things in bill that don't need to be there. The bridge to Nowhere in Alaska. If you don't know what that was it was basically a 220 million dollar bridge to an island where 50 people live. The Woodstock museum. Uh.....if they want a museum why doesn't the town build one themselves? If the government gives them the hand out for this does the government get the revenue it brings in? I doubt it. Both of these are prime examples of how politicians try to buy themselves into office for another year.
Now most of you think I'm Mr. Red state but I'll have you know right now that the Republicans who normally stand for controlled spending and tax cuts have let me down. They have wasted more money than Democrats in recent years and no longer seems to have the ideals that they used to. This of course pushes me back closer to where I belong with the Librertarians. They seem to be taking the fiscal ideals of the Republicans with many of the social ideals of the Democrats. Best of both world! Keep more of your money and do whatever makes you happy. Oversimplification I know but oh well. Want to learn more check here.
Ok. I think that is enough for now. I've babbled enough. I'm going to try to write more often in here but we all know that never works out.
