But, there are a few recent and not so recent things that make me think we are in the end stages of this experiment that is the United State of America. I'm going to touch on the older things without getting too much into them because they were way before I was born and I'm just not as pissed off about them at the moment because they aren't all over the news.

So let's get some of those out of the way. First things first. What the hell happened to the control resting with the states? When people used to refer to the United States of America they would say that the United States of America are instead of the singular form it has taken. Life, Liberty, and property is what we used to be able to work hard for. Now we can strive all we want as long as we don't get too far ahead of someone else. You also can't offend anyone......You know what. I'm going to stop right here. This deserves more attention that what I'm giving it right now. I'm watching Austin Powers, checking sports scores, and being distracted by the picture of Jessica Simpson above. So I'm going to try to work on this so I don't just start spouting off about stuff that makes me angry. Look for a continuation in the future.

Smoque BBQ

This post is going to be worthless for you if you don't live in the Chicagoland area. I'm a huge fan of the diners, drive-ins, and dives and they featured this BBQ joint in Chicago called Smoque. So this past weekend I decided to make the journey and for the most part I was not disappointed. Thankfully they have add on portions of the meats so that is what I tried. Brisket, Pulled Pork, Spare Ribs, and Smoked Sausage. By far the best part was the Brisket followed by the Pulled Pork. Don't get me wrong. The Ribs were no slouch but I must say the sausage was all wrong. It's probably because I'm used to Texas Smoked Sausage and that's what they advertise it as. The only other issue I had was with the sauce but I couldn't even place why I didn't like it that much. Sauce is very much a personal preference and just because I didn't like it doesn't mean you won't. And shit, I wouldn't turn it down most days. It just wasn't one of my favorite sauces. This is definitely worth the journey. Go give it a try.

June 6th 2008 a day which will live in infamy

Just a random observation. On June 6th this year I didn't see one mention of the anniversary of D-Day. No mention on the news, the radio, I didn't read a paper but I bet there wasn't a mention in the paper except maybe on page 95 of section Z. I don't know if it is because people have forgotten or if people are just so angry about war that they refuse to mention anything about it unless it serves some sort of political objective.

I can't believe it was 17 years ago

I cannot believe that it was 17 years ago that both of these albums came out. Grunge is probably closer to 20 years old now if not older. Holy Shit! I'm somewhat ashamed to admit that my first cd was C+C Music Factory, thankfully Nirvana released Nevermind less than a year later and saved me. At least my first tape purchase was much cooler than the music factory. Beastie Boys license to ill was great and damn, that was 22 years ago. I'm officially old.

Indiana Jones vs. the X-files

Today I saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Unlike a lot of the people who went with me I really enjoyed this film. When going to an Indiana Jones film do you really want to watch it looking for realism? I sure as hell don't. I can't think of much that is realistic in most of the movies. Heck the last movie there was a dude sitting in a cave for hundreds of years waiting for someone to come find him.

I really don't know how detailed to make my reviews since I don't want to ruin the movies for everyone so I'll try not to get too into it. I'm unsure how this franchise is going to work going forward since Shia LaBeouf is clearly being groomed to take over the franchise with Harrison Ford taking on the role of Sean Connery. I really thought Shia looked like a douche bag when he first appears on the screen but thankfully he got better as the movie progressed.

The best scene in the movie is Indy's ride in the refrigerator. I was also glad to see a cameo of the Ark of the Covenant as well as Dr. Jones' infamous fear of snakes. The movie did get a little weird with the introduction of an X-files esque theme but I was able to not worry too much about it. Some others didn't have that much control. So my advice is check the movie out for yourself and let me know what you thought. Remember. Physics does not apply and don't look for things to be true to life.

Harold and Kumar are Fucking Insane.

Now that I have found a cheap movie theater to go to on the way home from work I'm going to try to see a movie a week to try to catch up on ones that I've missed so far this year. 3.75 for a movie is a damn good deal compared to 10 bucks at the fancy theater. Shit that's less than a gallon of gas in Chicago these days.

Today I'm going to look at Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay. This was a pretty damn funny movie. If you liked Harold and Kumar go to White Castle you will like this movie.

The movie starts out an hour or so after we leave Harold and Kumar in the first movie. These two apparently can't go anywhere without fucking something up. The flick certainly has the dick and fart jokes through out the movie. Hot Naked Chicks.....check. Forget the topless parties the bottomless party is where it is at as long as the dudes stay in the pool. Harold as the scary goth kid in college is frightening. But the best part of the movie is George Bush's appearance. Uh...Yeah, this is worth the price of admission by itself. It is unfortunate what happens to Neal Patrick Harris but I don't want to spoil that.

I'm having a hard time deciding which of the Harold and Kumar movies I liked more. I think I'll have to see Guantanamo Bay a few more times to really figure it out since I've seen the first one so many times.

Another Crazy Idea

I know that I sometimes have crazy ideas but something just popped into my head. One of the basic ideas of physics, and I'm not physicist, is that every action has a reaction. Now that people are pushing for alternative energy there are wind farms popping up. I know it would have to be on an insanely large scale but is it possible that the resistance that is put on the wind to move these giant turbines could change weather patterns by slowing down the wind? I'm looking for someone smarter than I to provide an answer for me but it seems possible in my mind.

I'm also curious to see what kind of alternative energy we can move to that isn't going to have a negative reaction on us. Ethanol is a load of crap. Reduces gas mileage and the price of food is going up because of it. Corn is used as feed for lots of the animals that we eat on a daily basis as well as just the price of corn going up. I don't know if any other ones have been so fully implemented as to really see the effects. I could see solar happening once they make a cheaper solar panel.

I was thinking about touching on global warming today.....er I mean global climate change. Does that mean we are causing colder temperatures now and they don't want to lose out on being able to blame that on us too? But I'm not going to get into that today. I want to do a couple of quick movie reviews.

These are two of my favorite things........

Hopefully you sang the title there because it's just more fun for everyone when you do. It goes on about how there haven't been firearm rules put in place a year after the tragedy. They don't talk about it not being guns that kills people but the nutt jobs that get their hands on them and blah blah blah.

The real ignoring of Virginia Tech was today on news channels. I even worked from home today because I was expecting some good coverage of my great school and the wonderful people that find this gem in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Everyone that knows me knows of my love of Virginia Tech so I won't go into that here. The problem I have is that the news coverage today spent only a few minutes on Virginia Tech and it was the same old footage we have seen for a year. The large cop running with the AR-15, the student being carried out by for emergency workers, the candle light vigil, and a shot of the drill field. Then they go the their real coverage for the day. The pope was in DC. Unfortunately I think the only reason the media was all over that is that they were expecting the shit to hit the fan especially having the Pope and the President in the same place at the same time. Then they go to the radical Mormon compound in Texas and have some of the mothers on for what seems like forever. They really chose people that should not be interviewed. I had to change the channel after about 3 minutes of listening to them very s l o w l y explain their side of their story. Then, Oh My, Martha Stewart's dog died. Shucks. That deserves air time.

There you go. The real ignoring of Virginia Tech. Thanks News Media. Maybe next time you can get Paris Hilton flashing her crotch and interview some idiots whose house just flooded for the 20th time because they keep rebuilding in a flood plain. Maybe that last part is insensitive but I'm not sorry because maybe someone that needs to see it will read it and move to the mountains.

You have to be fucking kidding me....

Click the link above if you want to be disgusted with the crap they feed us as news. The freakonomics blog at the New York Times had a contest for the best 6 word motto for the US. That's the winner up top there. I really liked second place as well, "Caution! So I have been neglecting my blog for quite some time. But it's that time again for me to rant a little. I need to warm up some so this isn't going to be one of my fun rants but just a short one. So everyone knows about the current situation with the subprime mortgage mess. I'm sure you remember a few years ago when everyone was saying how good the economy was and everyone was buying houses? But do you remember it was the Democrats in congress that started pushing to force mortgage companies to provide these risky mortgages to people who might not be ready or able to afford a home in the long term? They said that everyone deserves to own their own home but is that really true? I think we can see with the current state of things that that might not be true. Trying to make everything fair by trying to regulate businesses and force them to do things that they know are not in their best interest isn't exactly the way to keep an economy going. So there you have it. The government almost single handedly caused this current mortgage crisis and now people are blaming so called greedy mortgage companies. Oh well, so it goes.

Now if you have read my blog before you know I'm kind of a bastard about the robin hood society we live in now. I'm all for private giving but when the government comes in and forcibly takes money from people to give to other people to try to make things "fair" I have a problem with it. Now I am a bit torn right now. The government causes a crisis that is messing with the economy so they should have to fix it. This might be one of the few instances where I see a government bail out as the right thing to do. They will no doubt screw it up and make it cost much more than it needs to but it is their responsibility. Now the problem is that instead of tightening their purse strings they will start taking more and more away from people who are going to help the economy. Yes, those high income / net worth people are the ones that create jobs and that is what is going to jumpstart this economy. Have you ever gotten a job from a poor person?

Every year the government tries to slip all sorts of things in bill that don't need to be there. The bridge to Nowhere in Alaska. If you don't know what that was it was basically a 220 million dollar bridge to an island where 50 people live. The Woodstock museum. Uh.....if they want a museum why doesn't the town build one themselves? If the government gives them the hand out for this does the government get the revenue it brings in? I doubt it. Both of these are prime examples of how politicians try to buy themselves into office for another year.

Now most of you think I'm Mr. Red state but I'll have you know right now that the Republicans who normally stand for controlled spending and tax cuts have let me down. They have wasted more money than Democrats in recent years and no longer seems to have the ideals that they used to. This of course pushes me back closer to where I belong with the Librertarians. They seem to be taking the fiscal ideals of the Republicans with many of the social ideals of the Democrats. Best of both world! Keep more of your money and do whatever makes you happy. Oversimplification I know but oh well. Want to learn more check here.

Ok. I think that is enough for now. I've babbled enough. I'm going to try to write more often in here but we all know that never works out.

Gaining Ground Everyday.

So, anyone that has ready much on here knows that I'm a fan of Mike Huckabee for the Republican nomination for President. There was a recent Iowa Poll that has Mike only 6% behind front runner Mitt Romney. And in a surprise article Huckabee has now received the endorsement of none other than Chuck Norris. Let's see you not vote for him now. You might just get a round house to the face. I visited a local coffee shop today and saw the tip jar flowing over with dollar bills and the guy who gave me my cup of coffee seemed offended that I didn't contribute to his greenback salad. But what the heck did he just do for me. He took a cup, poured in some black coffee, gave me a funny look when I told him I didn't want cream or sugar, put a lid on it (cool lid from this place by the way), slid on a heat sleeve, and took my money. Is that really worth a buck or two? I say no. It's kind of like the people at the big chain bagel shops. What do they do that is any different than someone at the local McDonald's? Now, there are local shops that do treat you and your food better and they might deserve a tip but they are the places that don't have tip jars and don't expect a gratuity.

Before you start to think I'm some Miser I do believe in tipping very well for good service. Non fast food Restaurants (I include the aforementioned bagel shops and coffee houses in the group of fast food restaurants. The waiters / waitresses in my opinion should not be seen and not try to interrupt the meal by making themselves seem likable so you will want to give them more.), Barbers (Uh...haven't been to one in a while), those people who provide a service such as concierge, Mail Carrier, Valets, Doormen, the creepy dudes in the bathrooms if you use their colognes and stuff they set out, delivery men who lift crap you don't want to lift unless you paid for the delivery, I'm sure there are many others that I'm missing but you get the point. I guess it boils down to the idea that I don't believe in tipping someone, for a service that I can get elsewhere that is as good, just because they have a job title like Barista.

Thankfully the coffee house I was at today had their cups listed as small, medium, and large otherwise I'd have to waste more time typing away here. Have a good week everyone.

Death Proof & 1408 Review.....Before watching the movie

Well, I finally broke down and decided that it is almost horror dvd buying spree time for me so I went ahead and bought 1408 on dvd. First thing they gave me a 20 dollar gift card to some online popcorn place but on the site most things are 40 bucks and above. So, I'm sitting down to watch this before the Bears game starts and I get annoyed by the previews they have on dvds before the movie even begins. But what the fuck is with the commercials and public service announcements? I see enough of those damn truth anti smoking ads when I watch the crap that they serve us on tv. That's it. I'll probably give you an update after I watch the film.

At least I have already watched Death Proof before trying to give a review. This movie is good. The car scenes are pretty damn cool. The Chicks are hott. What else does a movie really need. Oh yeah, the kiwi who plays one of the crazy chicks in the movie is a hottie but even more so with that New Zealand accent. But i'm sure many of you know I'm a sucker for them or or some of the other British type accents. Some of the best assignments I get at work are when I have users from Scotland on the line. Anyways, that chick, I think her name is Zoe, is a stunt woman in films and actually was the stunt double for Uma Thurman in Kill Bill. I'm normally not big on the second disc special features on movies but this one is pretty cool with documentaries and of course an entire section on Zoe.

So, there you go. Two completely crappy movie reviews that don't really talk about the movies. Oh well, Death Proof is a definate watch and I'll update later on 1408.

Update: So, just finished 1408 and it didn't disappoint. This isn't a crazy scary movie or anything but it was good. Probably the best line in the movie is by the bad ass Samuel L Jackson. When John Cusack is checking into the room Samuel L Jackson says It's an Evil Fucking room. It's just great the way he says it but then again, no one uses the F-bomb like Samuel L Jackson. Anyways, this is definately worth watching. Check it out.

I must do this to someone.

Dramatic Chipmunk Vs. This stuff just gets better and better.

Woot Kitties

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5090191143627991090" style="DISPLAY: block; Well, I found a great blog post from one of my favorite sites. Click on the link above. It will take you to a posting that will explain how you can protect yourself from credit fraud. I've already gone through and gotten my credit reports but today I went in and opted out of receiving all of the pre-approved credit card offers. Once I finally get a car I'm going to go and have the extra protection added to my credit companies. I don't want to do it yet because I don't want any hastle when I'm buying a car. I also had a pleasant surprise, my credit score is almost 50 points higher than I thought. Also, while you are at this website look around. There is a tremendous amount of useful information here.

Enjoy.

Transformers Movie Review = Freaking Awesome!

So I finally got to go see Transformers. This was an awesome movie and by far the best one I've seen in quite some time. It's also good to know that my favorite transformer growing up is still the best one. Bumblebee. He destroys the decepticons without the use of his legs and manages to get the main character some ass at the same time. And yeah.....Not just any ass. Megan Fox, no there isn't a relation you sick perverts. See the latest issue of Maxim magazine if you want to see more of Megan. :) So that's it. Go see this film especially if you grew up playing with the transformer toys and waiting for the cartoon as soon as you got home from school.

9,999 for Another Day

Today the Philadelphia Phllies beat Colorado to keep their all time loss record at 9,999 losses. I love all of my Philadelphia sports teams but it is draining. This is yet another sad moment for the fans of Philly. I think that probably explains our temperament while watching sports. Especially the infamous 700 Level attitude. Well, that's it. I just figured I would give you all an update and a reminder for those of you who are looking forward to giving me crap come 10,000. Keep an eye on the sports pages. This is the 6th time since 1999 that they have visited Lane Stadium with highlights including when I helped set records for attendance for ESPN Gameday on more than one occasion and When I was in the stands for the Georgia Tech game when we were getting soaked and Lee Corso picked GT to upset the Hokies right before his car got struck by lightning. That game was called and Lee Corso almost had to walk back to the hotel. Lucky for him the Hokies that picked him up were feeling generous. It's going to be a weird opening game since I'm sure all they will be talking about to start is April 16th so I'm going to start watching the game a little sad but I'm sure by the time we are leading by 28 points I'll be good.

I kind of hate myself today....

Today is the first time I think I have found Paris Hilton to be cute. This of course follows just days after I realize that I had just gotten past the point where it enters my head every day. I just wanted to give anyone who cares a link to the online version of the magazine. Just click on the title of this entry. The part that really got to me was the section for We are all Hokies. All very emotional images but the one that really hit me was a letter from a child on the page. Well, I'm going to try to get this out of my head so I can get some sleep tonight. Click on the link above if you would like to check it out. I'm sure you must have heard about all of the Democrat presidential candidates dropping out of a Nevada debate because it was hosted by Fox News. Well, all of the real Democrat candidates, does Dennis Kucinich really count? Mark Green has invited the Republican party candidates to have a debate that will be hosted by Air America, which if you don't know, is an openly left leaning radio network. I think this is great. How else will we ever get open debate about real issues? If you have a Republican host are the Republican candidates really going to get pressed on issues that are outside of the GOP norm? Same goes for Democrats. All I can hope is that the Republican candidates have the stones to say Yes. *Warning* Political bias ahead.... If you pay attention to politics you can see the difference in the way that the two sides debate each other. The Republicans tend to want to argue about the issues while the Democrats tend to argue until they find themselves trapped and then just start calling people Hitler and Fascists. Really not a way to win over people in an arguement. Of course there are exceptions just like in anything. Many of the best politicians find ways to creatively call others names. Definitely lawyers and english majors in these groups.
Ok. I don't feel like writing any more. Hopefully the Republicans won't mess up this opportunity to speak in a diverse environment so that they can be asked some tough questions that they might not otherwise get a chance to confront.

PS. Support Air America. They are an company in trouble. They need more listenership and money. The airwaves need more radio like them so that there is equal representation in Radio despite the rich liberal bias in all other forms of media.

300 Update

Well, I was shopping at Target this weekend and heard something that disturbed me. A lady was talking to her friend and a child about the movie 300 and said that the Spartans deserved what they got since they didn't let the disfigured character be involved in the fight. Those of you that have seen the movie will understand this. Those who haven't, go pony up and see this great flick. Anyways, I thought they made a very good point in the movie of exactly why he could not be involved since he would be unable to protect the Spartan to his left. And in seeing the battle sequences it is easy to see how this would have hindered the Spartans in their attempts to protect themselves. Has our society really become so enamored with the idea that everyone should win that they can't see how that the protection of the whole can easily be destroyed by one chink in the armor?
This brings me back to one of my favorite topics....Little League baseball and everyone is a winner. I'm assuming that it is the parents that are doing this since they don't want their children to be shut out of any opportunity. What they don't seem to understand is that the world needs ditch diggers too. Not everyone is going to excel at everything they do. Me? I know to keep my ass off the dance floor.
The other huge problem with this thinking is that it is going to lead to the demise of our Nation. What made America great is that we were a nation of hard workers that were willing to fight for everything that they desired. Now we have become the entitlement society where people think that they should be provided for and that they are owed something just because they are breathing and taking up space in this country.
Ok....I need to get back to work. Rant over, for now.

HokieX Movie Review: Stranger than Fiction

This was another good movie. I have yet to give a bad review, well out of the two I've done, but one of these days I'll have to go back and review some of the shitty movies I've seen.

What I like most about this film are some of the ideas that were put into my head. The most important of which is what if some sort of external event caused authors to change the endings of some of my favorite books or what if the authors had been influenced and had changed their original ideas in some of the books that I have not enjoyed.

The only book that I have read to be edited like this is A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. The European version has 21 chapters while the American version only has 20. The movie is based on the American version. It is a huge change in the story when you compare the two versions of these books.

What if Life of Pi had ended after 50 pages and Pi just got eaten by the tiger? What if Holden Caulfield didn't hate the phonies? What if Juliet decided that Romeo was stupid for killing himself and went out an found another guy? What if Neal Boortz had said that the national sales tax would be 30 percent instead of 23 percent? Yeah, it has been a while since I mentioned the fair tax. Had to throw it in. :) Ok. Laundry's done and time to fold. Have a good week everyone and check out Stranger than Fiction.

Even more ammo for those that know I'm wierd.

Have you ever been some place and you just get the feeling that you should talk to a person that you see? Not the situation where you start thinking that you need to talk to a hot chick so you might have a chance to touch her boobs. I don't quite know how to explain it. It's like you might change their day for the better if you strike up a conversations with them. I've been having this happen more and more recently. It just seems odd to me since I can pretty much talk to anyone if put in the right situation but when I'm out, at let's say the grocery store, I tend to not really look people in the eyes and avoid having to deal with others. Ok....I don't really know where I was intending to go with this post but there it is. That fucker just can't stay retired. He's now talking with Bloomberg and saying that there is a 1/3rd chance that the US will go into a recession. We are 6 years into a recovery and a 10 year recovery is unheard of. Well, that's all fine and good but you are retired jackass. Let your replacement Ben Bernanke do his job without having you in the background second guessing him. Yes, we all know everyone thinks you are the god of economy but just stay retired and let Ben do his job. Granted I don't like Bernanke because he is going to be instrumental is trying to turn the US into more of a communist state but I've already complained about that before. I just know that if I were in charge, and the person who formerly was in the post started questioning me and contradicting me, I'd be pissed. Go play a round of golf Alan and try to avoid the cameras on the way. People say one man can't control the markets? Guess again. Between Alan Greenspan and the rumor that the Chinese are going to implement a 20% gain on capital gains taxes on investments we have been screwed this past week in the markets. Which one do you think was more of a cause of the markets problems last week? I'd say Greenspan.

Addition: Of course after I get to work I find out that it is Alan Greenspan's birthday. He was born in 1926. Now go play golf and enjoy retirement before it is too late Alan.

Reporters must really be some of the lowest form of scum on this earth....

So I woke up this morning and found a news article that was talking about how awful it was that Hillary Clinton was playing up a southern accent while she was in Selma, Alabama while she was adressing people celebrating the 42nd anniversary of the 1965 Selma voting rights march. This is some stupid and unnecessary reporting. I know that when I'm hanging around with some of my redneck friends I pick up a southern drawl. It's just something that happens. It's kind of fun while it lasts too. Now if you go back and listen to Hillary when Bill was Governor of Arkansas you will find that her accent was crazy. I rarely hear someone with that much of a southern accent. I'm thinking it must have taken years of therapy to get rid of that so she could blend in as a northern senator. Now honestly, is it that hard to dig up dirt on Hillary that you have to attack her for having an accent during a speech? How about you bring up Hillarycare again or all of the shady deals that that she was supposedly involved in in the past. Come on reporters. If there isn't enough news to report find something better to do.

One Step Closer to ruling the world.

Ok. Doubt we will see a new article like this in the mainstream media no matter how true it turns out to be.

Today I must be Hobbes.....

I've always pictured myself as Calvin in the Calvin and Hobbes comic strip but today I must be Hobbes...Well, except for the whiskers comment. :)

Communisim Anyone???

Now I'm getting really scared. Our Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke is now saying that taxes have an "important" role to play in narrowing the widening income gap between rich and poor through income-transfer programs, and Congress needs to balance that goal against the desirability of tax incentives that spur innovation. So, lets see. Should I keep working hard and trying to get ahead in this world or should I just say screw it and go find a nice comfy couch with a huge tv in front of it and sit back and let the government take money away from the successful people to take care of me. Maybe while I'm at it I'll find some chick who wants to do the same thing and we can pop out some kids so we can get more money. mmm.....income distribution.....communism.....

Just wait for Hillary or Barrack to get elected so we can have socialized medicine and have to wait 8 months for cancer treatment that is now incurable but before would have been easily treated. Or 2 months for an MRI.

Didn't we see this socialism experiment play out before. Uh....They aren't around anymore. Well, atleast most of them aren't around anymore. Maybe our politicians should pick up a history textbook.

I really don't have much to say.

Like the title says I don't have much to say but I want to write some stuff so the lovely valentine's day post below is moved down the blog a little bit so you can still see the stuff to the right. I was supposed to have an association meeting today and it got cancelled because of the crappy weather. You know a few months ago when I said my apprenticeship is coming to an end and then it didn't. Well, it's coming to an end again. It's wierd...the job I'm going back to I haven't done in 9 months. Did I mention that I hate the snow? Uh....Yeah, that's enough babbling hopefully. Obsession is what drives Creativity and Discovery. Obsession is what causes us to Excel. I can't think of a single thing I have ever been Obsessed about. Not a woman, not a car, not a movie, not music, not a career aspiration......Nothing. I don't think I've ever had something that I've strived for that I would have given anything to accomplish. I've always just wanted to fit in, to be normal, to blend in with the crowd, and be able to disappear into the background. That will never happen. I've accepted it. I'm one that always tends to stand out in a crowd and now I have decided that I want to find something that will have me floating even higher above that crowd. What it is I have yet to discover but I know I'm not going to find it by doing what I'm doing. Time for something different. Time for a change.

PS. To please Anonymous feel free to substitute all instances of the word Obsession with the word Passion and it it still holds true for me. :)

Well.....well.....well

As I'm sure you have guessed by now I didn't get my free time back although I'm writing this at work. My apprenticeship was extended for a few more months and with some luck a fulltime job might appear in this group or I get to go back to my normal job.

I've been harassed recently about not updating my blog so I figured I would take some time while I had some spare to share some interesting and random thoughts.

First thing, Did anyone watch the State of the Union speech? I tried and had to change the channel. No, not because I can't stand Bush like the rest of you (although I'm through trying to support him, he's just pissing me off recently but I'll get to that in a few.) it's because of Madame Speaker Pelosi. I couldn't help but laugh at the wierd things she was doing? Blinking like crazy and making strange faces that didn't appear to be opposition to what W was saying just an involuntary thing.

I'm sure one of the most adament of people requesting that I update my blog is going to be bored with this entry because I was just ranting about some of this stuff while he was in my office. Ok. My problems with Bush and the Repulicans. Bush has become a pansy. He's put so many restrictions on the war because of political or social pressure that our troops are unable to perform their jobs effectively. He is also going to let through the amnesty program for illegal aliens even though he won't call it that. Duh folks, we tried that before and it didn't do anything to curb the tide of illegals washing over our borders on a daily basis. He's virtually given up on reforming Social Security and the tax systems which are the reason's that I helped reelect him. Don't I feel like a fool now. Yes, you all know, FAIR TAX NOW!!!!! go to http://www.fairtax.org to find out more information. I'm sure there are other reasons but I'm through with Bush for now (the president not the pussy) and moving onto the problems with the republican party which I believe I have voiced before. The republican party is supposed to be the party of smaller government and the USA is great because of it's people party. The democrats are supposed to be the big government and the USA is great because of it's government party. Well, they aren't looking so different other than the huge topics of the war, social issues, and abortion. The government is there to stay in business. If they give us too much power ourselves they are afraid that we won't keep electing them so that they can give themselves fatcat raises and take bribes and trips so that the lobbiests can keep their nice offices on K street and their mansions in Northern Virginia. They want to make it so that citizens rely on their government all the time rather than in times of crises. Well, there you have that rant. I'm not going to spell check or read it over because I just don't want to. If there are issues with spelling or grammer be a big kid and figure out the meaning. It shouldn't be too hard.

I need a beer. I'm going to take off now. I'm ready for the weekend. I hope you all have a safe and happy weekend. I'll try to write more often but until then do something exciting so I can live vicariously through you.

The apprentice returns

Well, not quite yet but I'm going back to my old job on December 4th after a 6 month apprenticeship which means I'm going to have time again to cause mayhem and chaos through blog again. Well, the Dems have taken control of both houses. I think we all know what that means. It's time to go out there and get some new guns before the pass bans on the high capacity magazines again. Yeah, i know a 31 round clip for a 9mm handgun is excessive but those of you that know me know I like doing things just because I can. :) Not many people can shoot 31 rounds at a target without having to switch clips or reload. The other thing that is on my mind this morning concerning the elections is that I keep seeing democrats getting on tv saying that the american people voted for a change and then they start listing off all the things that the american people wanted to changed. Uh....I don't know about your ballots but mine just had people we were voting for. I'll cover this topic more later. (sidenote for those who care I voted the majority republican with 2 democrats and 3 green party candidates including a gaysian. I'm still amazed that was one of his big running points that he was the first openly gay asian to run for office in Illinois. His ideas were better than the other two candidates so he earned my vote. So how many of you actually researched this election and saw what the candidates were doing? I'd be willing to bet it is very much a minority of people in this country but hey, atleast you voted. And since text is cold and lifeless I'll say that in the last line after the comma was indeed sarcasm. Ok. I actually have to get some work done today and the updates will probably be few and far between until December but I'll see what I can do for you. Later.

Go Cubbies!

Well, It's over. Someone finally took me to a baseball game and the choice has been made for the Cubs. When I moved here I had a plan that the first person who took me to a baseball game will have picked my team in Chicago. Well, I went to the friendly confines the other day and it was awesome. Sure the stadium is old as dirt and not the nicest when it comes to amentities but being the history buff that I am I could just picture the fans over the years attending. Wouldn't you know it... They actually won too. :) The picture isn't the score that my game ended but it is a good picture none the less. So there you have it. Go Cubbies!!

Also, for those of you that don't read the Sporting News they just ranked Chicago the number one sports city in the United States. Philly got 9th and Blacksburg was 59th. Not bad for a small town in rural Virginia.

Ho Ho Ho......

I just wanted to update this because I thought you all might like this link. My first tv I returned because there was a wierd line in the middle of the screen. This past Saturday they delivered the new one. 30 minutes of watching it and there was a loud pop and the screen had a bright flash. This has happened 4 more times in 2 days. I'm hoping that the 3rd tv's the charm.

Shuffle Up and Deal!

Well folks, we are on for Thursday night. My guess is 7pm til 10pm or later. So far we have Miss Jackie, Naked Brian, Naked Brian's Dad, and myself. So we could definately use two more players or more. I'm thinking we will probably just go easy with a couple 10 dollar buy in quick Texas hold em tournaments. So there you have it. I just got a phone call we might have another person in. Also on a side note my friend Gergi just won a seat at the World Series of Poker Main Event for the second year in a row. Bush....atleast today. Despite having voted for Bush in the last election I have grown weary of him since he isn't really taking on the issues that I hoped he would. FairTax, real immigration reform(Read not another amnesty program. It didn't work the last time we did it.), personal property rights, and Social Security. But wait!!! Is it possible he did something about personal property rights? I found this article today and it made me happy. Click on the title at the top of the page silly. Every time I read an article about some local government taking people's homes, to put up a Walmart or make a nice new marina with big houses, I get pissed off. I just don't understand how any government in the United States could be allowed to take someone's land just to increase their tax revenue. Sure, sometimes taking land is right. I would love it if Illinois would take some land and make 53 go further north. That is all. Enjoy the weekend knowing that should some government want to take your home away you might be able to fight it better than you could have yesterday.

Jesus Loves Me.....

...And so does your Mom!!!

Here I go again...

Well, i decided to post a bunch of different little blurbs today. What can i say? Somedays you just have the material to write. The rest of the time you are boring. The average US worker makes 400 dollars less per year than the average CEO makes in a day. Wow. I can barely wrap my mind around that one.

This really reminds me of my issue with professional sports. It used to be that the common man could take his family to a ball game as a cheap outing to have some fun. Now it is a major production and a huge cost to the family. Many can't even afford to go any more. The athletes have become so detached from the fans that they don't care if the fans can't afford to go to the games. They just want their huge checks. I was reading about the Philadelphia Flyers team from the mid 70s. The Broad Street Bullies. These are the types of players we need now a days. Get back to the Blue Collar work ethic. These guys used to go to the bars with all the fans after the games. You could buy one of the players a beer for playing well and he'd sit and talk to you for an hour or two. They were just working class schmoes. You see a pro athlete now a days and most of them expect you to start bowing at their feet just to talk to them.

Well, I've spent too much time on this already so I have to get back to work. I'm sure I'll revisit it again at some point soon. While I'm at it, What was your favorite childhood sports memory? I'll post mine later.

Damn that's some old mustard....

...but I bet it can still kill you. Incase you haven't heard they have released documents telling about the weapons of mass destruction that they have found in Iraq. I doubt I'll stop hearing about Bush lying about WMDs but it is good that they released these documents. The report says that they have found about 500 containers of sarin and mustard gas. I heard someone arguing about the fact that they were produced in the early 90s but i'm willing to bet it can still kill just as many people as it could the day it was produced. The whole problem with Saddam is that he was supposed to destroy all of his WMDs according to the U.N. and never did. I believe it was 13 resolutions that he ignored. Now he is gone. This is Casa D'Ice in North Versailles Pennsylvania. Just like many other I can't help but get annoyed that everywhere I go I have to say I speak English. The ones that bug me are when I call a business for information and ATMs. Thankfully I'm with Chase bank and they actually have it set up as they all should be. Starts in English and if I want to continue that way I just enter my pin and keep going. But for those that do not speak English as their first language there are 7 or 8 different languages to choose from on the right hand side. This is perfectly acceptable and yes, I know that it is just one button and it really doesn't put me out but it is just the idea of changing something for everyone to pander to what should be very much a minority in the country...the non English speaker. There's my semi rant for the day. Have a great day and checkout the link to see all of the random signs this guy puts up. I have not updated my blog in weeks. I'm sitting here in my new house and I don't feel like doing anything today. I'm sick of moving and unboxing and putting things together and I can't believe it but I'm sick of shopping too. Well, until I get my William's Sonoma giftcards. I can't wait for those. I'll post some pictures of the new place once it is set up and looking good. Many of you have already been invited to come by this Sunday to check the place out. Hopefully I will have it mostly done by then and I'll try to have beer or something around. Well, that is it for this entry. I have something else to talk about but it deserves it's own posting. One other thing while we are at it. Just so you can know how messed up I really am you can now check out my links and stuff at http://del.icio.us/hokiex that should keep you busy for a while. There is just something about the dogs look that I really like. I don't have a clue what it is but oh well. This was the same trip where I almost got eaten by coyotes. Virginia Tech will be kicking off at 1:30 pm against Northeastern. I don't know who the hell Northeastern is and I don't give a damn. I'm so desperate for some football that I ordered the magazine over on the left and it doesn't even come out for another month and a half. I'll probably start counting down to the release of that soon enough. So the draft is this weekend and unfortunately that is just another reminder of how much I want football season to start. Sure, some people like the draft and I'll probably end up watching upteen hours of it this weekend hopefully while eating chicken wings or rib tips while sucking down some good beer, but it really isn't going to give me the fix that I need. Sometimes in the offseason I miss the XFL but then I remember that it's the XFL and the XFL was stupid. Go Hokies!

Least Smooth Man on the Planet

Welcome everyone! You are reading the official blog of the least smooth man on the planet. I'm not talking about having not shaved for two days. I'm talking about dealing with women. Of course this doesn't include the ubergeeks that sit at home all day and play on their computer and never actually have contact with real women. I realized today that I bought Hitch some time ago and I don't remember actually watching it. For those of you who have not seen Hitch I recommend watching it. For most guys it will probably make you feel pretty good but for me I saw that Albert is actually more smooth than I am. So I have come to the realization that I either need to find a tall skinny black man to help me have the confidence to make a fool of myself or have a crazy old lady pretend to be choking at my cousin's wedding in September so she can introduce me to her hot, rich, and single granddaughter. :) Now I just have to learn to believe in magic. Have a great week everyone.

Addition 4.17.06
It was brought to my attention that this saddened one of my friends. I wasn't trying to make this sound sad I was thinking it was kind of funny. Send me your finest hotties for I am the king of all the land. hehe. Or just introduce me to cute friends who are actually single and like the big bald guys with great goatees. :)

Ugh....

Sorry I haven't updated this in a while. This is a paragraph stolen from Neal Boortz's website. My comments are in parentheses.

If you vote for Democrats in the mid-term elections you are voting for the party that has clearly given aid and comfort to those who want to destroy us. (Uh.....Can't really argue there) It's not that the Democrats have no agenda. Indeed, they do have an agenda, but it's not one they want to put in front of the American voters. It's an agenda of bigger government (Yeah, in history this is the case but if you look at the government under George Bush 2 I don't think you can get much worse on the spending front even if you take out defense spending.) , the end of political free speech (Well, if your only talk radio station was Air America you would want to stop the shows that don't have to pay stations to carry them too.) , higher taxes (Yeah, can't argue too much here. Fair Tax Now! http://www.fairtax.org) , more income redistribution (I can't help but think that we would be living in a communist society if the Democrats had their way. They are definitely not a friend to capitalism and like to punish people for achieving.) , a continuation of the war on individuality (I don't know if a war on individuality is the right phrase here. They just want you to be gay, female, or a minority. Otherwise keep your mouth shut.) and the weakening of America (Yeah, sure, why not.). It's a pity that the Republicans won't identify the Democratic agenda for what it is, and stand up to fight it instead of seemingly playing along.

Ok Folks. Let's see if that gets a rise out of some of you.

Art, Duct Tape, and Dirty Socks.

Well, I finally made it down to the Art Institute Chicago and I'm disappointed. First problem that I ran into is that American Gothic ( <-----Over there) is on loan to some other museum. I didn't find this out until I was in the room where it should be and there was a sign with a little picture of the painting saying something like, HAHA Sucker. We took this painting away! Sure would suck if you paid 12 bucks to get in here to see it. Thank you come again. Well, atleast they had the Hopper paintings there. Nighthawks was great. The other big problem with the Art Institute is the lay out of the place. There is just not a good flow to the whole complex. I followed a few different hallways and they kept dumping me down on the main level where the armor is. I never want to see the armor room again....17 times is enough.

Breakfast was great! If you get a chance you should go to Lou Mitchell's for breakfast. If you have to wait in line they give you donut holes or other random things. I got 2 eggs over medium, sausage links, and hash browns and they all come in a cool handled skillet. Awesome stuff. But when the waitress brought the check over she gave me ice cream. How could you not have a great day when you get ice cream at the end of breakfast.

The train ride home was interesting. I was surrounded by a bunch of grandparents. They were all about disciplining every child on the train. The one old guy that was woken up by one of the yelling kids in our car said he was about to take off one of his socks, stick it in the kids mouth, and duct tape it shut. Little bit excessive but I liked the idea of actually disciplining the kids. I heard two of the mothers trying to reason with the kids like they were a grown up. I think everyone on the train except the mothers knew this wasn't working. I really don't understand this whole thing of not spanking kids. Sure, we are in a soft cuddly society now where everyone gets Little League trophies because we are all winners but this is getting rediculous. I got spanked plenty when I was little. You know what I learned when I got spanked. Don't do that shit again or I'm going to get spanked. I'm not saying that you should beat the crap out of the kid. I wouldn't call that a spanking that's abuse. I won't get any further into my hatred of the everyone is a winner thing right now but I'm sure you will hear about it one of these days. Have a good week everyone.

Slacker!!!!

Ok. I've been severely slacking on this blog in recent weeks. Just playing with the brewmaster 3o00, The ultimate name in beer electronics. Yeah, not really. It was like 2 bucks and said beer in the name so I figured it had to be good.

Well, I helped some old people move out of their house a week ago and found some fun treasures. The old guy was cool. All he kept saying was, "If you like it, take it. I'm going to be rich on Wednesday." He wasn't lying. He originally bought his house 45 years ago for 20 thousand bucks and just sold it for just under 500 thousand. I got a cool 3.5 foot tall Japanese Vase, a big glass bottle to put change in, some old books and pictures, an old meat grinder, and a tea ball. Fun stuff I tell you.

Unfortunately I don't have anything fun to complain about or humorous to say. Hopefully later in the week I'll be back to my old fun ranting self. :) Until then checkout http://www.fairtax.org or I could start bitching about bike riders a few days early. It is going to be a nice weekend so I already know they are going to be out in force screwing up the roadways. Hopefully some day some one can explain to me why the hell I have to share the road if they don't have to follow the rules of the road. There are enough damn bike paths up here; they should use them.

WTF?????

Ok Folks. I got it now. In each segment of 10 numbers there is only one or two possible numbers it can be. 31 = 27, 30 = 27, 25 = 17, 21 = 17. I just read an article on Foxnews.com that says the Massachusetts state Pharmacy Board has ordered Walmart in that state to carry the morning after pill. As I started to read I found out that Massachusetts wasn't the first state to force Walmart to carry that pill. Unfortunately this back-assward state of Illinois was the first. I'm sure you'll get me to rant on Illinois sooner or later but this is about the article. I just don't understand why the government should force a store to carry certain items that the store doesn't want to carry. Walmart doesn't carry music cds with a parental advisory sticker. Are they going to make them start carrying that stuff now too? The morning after pill is available at all major drug store chains. When was the last time you drove 10 blocks without seeing Walgreens, RiteAid, CVS, or Eckerd's? It isn't like there is a shortage of places to get this damn pill. I really hope that Walmart is still allowed to price items as they see fit and price the morning after pill at a couple hundred bucks a pop.
*Clarification Number 1*
This is not an attack on the morning after pill. I just figured that I would put that out there before someone brought it up. This is about government telling a store what they have to do. Whether or not you think that using the morning after pill is abortion, it is my opinion that it isn't any of my business. It would be between you and the various Gods that you worship or don't worship as the case may be.

Don't we all love V.D.????

I may have found my favorite Valentine's Day website ever! The show was about a woman and her family who live in Blacksburg, VA. Yes, this is where Virginia Tech is. Carol Crawford Smith is the mother of two school aged boys and she used to be a professional dancer. Unfortunately she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis about 5 years ago and is unable to walk without the assistance of canes or others around her. This is where the Extreme Makeover team stepped in. They sent Carol and her two boys to a beach somewhere for a week whlie they worked on her house. I'm just giving a very brief description of the show because I'm sure you can find out about it elsewhere. It was amazing to watch as the Marching Virginians led a group of builders, students, and town residents down the street to the house. Hearing Tech Triumph on primetime tv just can't be beat. Of course I still have to wait 8 months until football season. There was another great display by the Virginia Tech football team when they showed up just in time to move all of the furniture into the completely rebuilt house. Seeing Ty walk across the drill field in the snow really made me miss campus but I'm just really proud that the showed the town and students chipping in to help with this project. I could have done without them showing the ass in the UVA hat during one of the random speaches in the episode but I guess that is a small price to pay for getting to see Blacksburg in the snow for the first time in years. I pray that every one of you get to experience the magic of Blacksburg some time in your life. It really is just a fantastic place and don't worry Marcus Vick has been kicked off the football team and out of school. He will also probably be going to jail soon so crime in the area has decreased dramatically. ;)

Myspace.com......A place for foreign sluts.

Well, they finally got their hooks into me. I have created a page on myspace. Check it out at http://www.myspace.com/hokiex . I have to admit it has been fun. I have found a bunch of old friends and seen pictures of lots of crazy people. I also keep getting messages from foreign sluts who want to talk or they want me to check out their webcams. The first one I got I was trying to figure out why this hot chick was writing me. And yes, she was smoking!! She is probably Randy, a drunken fat redneck who has a sick fetish for talking to guys who think he is a hot chick. Then a few hours later I got another message from a girl in Russia who "wish to create family with the financially secure person which can contain our future family, get children." So anyway, whether you are a foreign slut or not go ahead and add me to your myspace. I'm curious just how bad it can get on this site. There are just the possibilities for so many bad things. Have a good week everyone.

Some Environmentalists are Mental (an observation)

Well, yesterday I was driving home after work and following behind this car that obviously had an oil problem. There was thick black smoke flowing from the tailpipes and the smell burned the hair from my nostrils. As I got closer I noticed that there were a bunch of bumper stickers on the car. Once I was able to read I noticed they said things like, "Stop Animal Testing", "No fur", "Stop Global Warming", and many anti-gun and anti-capitalism stickers. I'm hoping that maybe this person is just messing around and making a joke because they know the pollution machine that they are driving. Then I saw a puff of smoke come from her lips while taking the final drag from a death stick and with a flick it was out the window and on the ground. I must say I really don't hold smokers in high esteem and it is mostly because there are always cigarette butts everywhere. Even the door that I walk through to get into work has the smell of smoke even if no one is out there smoking. I guess the best thing about smokers is that if I know someone that is smoking outside I just take a non-smoke smoke break and relax for a few. Yes, I, like everyone else, have friends that are smokers and I love them dearly, but this is just my basic opinion of smokers in general. If they are my friends they obviously are better than most people so I can ignore a few idiosyncrasies.

Let's see if I can do the Islamic Fundamentalists a favor and cut my own head off.

Sorry Osama, this is just me talking about razors. I'll let you know when I come over to your neck of the woods but I'll probably get a tattoo that says I'm Canadian before I come visit. Well, I was given a new Gillette Fusion razor this weekend and it is pretty cool but it made me think of that plan I used to have to get an old school razor and I'm really entertaining the thought of giving the old straight or safety razor a try.

Well, there it is. The Gillette Fusion. I have to admit this was a better shave than my Mach 3. I figured that would be a load of crap but it looks like they added two blades but made the blades about half the size so it takes up about the same amount of space. I did use shaving oil before putting on the shave cream and the shave was great. But I can't help but want to use the old school shaving tools.
This is what they call a safety razor. It was originally designed by the Gillette company in the 1800s. This is a version by German manufacturer Merkur. Merkur is generally considered the best safety razor maker. This might be the first step I take before actually going all the way to a straight razor. Everyone that uses this one says they get some nicks and cuts for the first week while learning to use it but after that the shaves are amazing. Plus the cost of replacing the blades is about 50 cents each compared to about 4 bucks with the new Fusion.

Now here is the pinacle of shaving. The straight razor. You just can't beat one of these for a shave. I've had a few professional shaves where they use this and it is amazing. Of course the one in the picture is about $1000 but how cool does that thing look. The two biggest players in the straight razor game are Domo and Thiers-Issard. The way it was described to me is that it is like comparing a Mercedes Benz to a Rolls Royce. Both are great and you wouldn't turn either down, but the Thiers-Issard goes above and beyond as the best. So one of these days I'm either ordering the safety razor or straight razor. I'll keep you posted on how they work or if you don't hear back maybe I have helped Osama and slipped.

Sex with Conservatives is Taboo Again.

See the guy to the Left....That's George W. Bush. The President of the United States. I found out last week that I was turned down for a date because I voted for this man. Isn't that a mind fuck. I guess some people just have such a blind hatred of this man that they don't want anything to do with anyone who supports him. I guess that is good to find out. It is much better than the original reason she gave me since she did the exact oposite about a month later. This really pushes me to become an Evil Right Wing Conservative since it's obvious that is how people think of me. People that actually listen to me when I talk about politics realize that I do have many liberal leanings but my core leanings go the the Right. If the Democratic party had actually put a decent candidate (Joseph Lieberman anyone? Forget Hillary. Senator Lieberman might be the left's best chance for taking the white house in 2008.) against Bush they might have won and could quit crying about it. Unlike most people I give both candidates a chance when I'm voting for something. How the hell could someone vote for John Kerry when he wouldn't tell you how he was going to make things better. "I have a better plan" doesn't give me a good basis for wanting to vote for someone. What the fuck is your better plan!?!?!? Atleast with George Bush we knew what we were getting and of course that is why some people voted for John Kerry. "Anybody but Bush." Wow, that really makes me feel better about some of the people who are allowed to vote. The people who vote along party lines every time are idiots. I know it will never happen but they should say that if you vote you should have to verse yourself on the issues so you can actually make an informed decision. Then again, this shouldn't be such a big deal. The federal government shouldn't be the large size that it has become anyway. The federal government should only be used for it's military and to protect people's rights if they are abused by the state government. You think that will ever happen? Hell no. Politicians are too comfortable with their power and will never give it up which is exactly why I'm working for getting the FairTax plan put into place. This will be the biggest swing of power from the federal government back to the people. Yes, I've been reading Neal Boortz again. Go check out the fairtax at http://www.fairtax.org. Trying to pubish this post I realize that my spell check doesn't work. There are probably misspelled words everywhere but get over it.

Marcus we hardly knew you.......or Welcome to my Blog.

Marcus, we hardly knew you. Well, I'm sure if you have anything to do with Virginia Tech or are a College football fan in general you have heard that Marcus Vick has been dismissed from the Virginia Tech football team. I think I have finally made up my mind that this is a good thing. I'm already a Philadelphia Eagles fan. I don't need anymore trouble makers on my sports teams. I'm sure that if that #5 jersey didn't say VICK on the back there wouldn't have been second chances. I'm just disappointed that he has, for the first and hopefully last time, made me feel the slightest bit of embarassment in saying that I'm a Hokie. And yes, it was slight and I'm over it now. I am a proud Virginia Tech Hokie fan. I always will be.

But moving on, How about this bowl season? I must say I got to see some great games to end this season. I'm actually glad that college football is over this week because I can finally get to sleep at a decent hour. Of course next week begins the 9 months of depression as I wait for college football season to begin. There are exceptions. Letter of Intent day and The Spring Game. Please Lord let September 2nd come quickly.

As of yet I still do not know what my intentions are with this blog. I'm sure I'll just be commenting on anything I feel like for the day. Hopefully I'll get to put up some of my photographs that I've taken, or maybe have a few rants about politics or my desire to have the Fair Tax implemented. I'm sure I'll complain about work here and there and I'll probably keep you in the dark as to where that is. I'll also delve into things that I figure out about myself. Did you know that I'm not passionate about a damn thing that I can think of? Yep. I think it is true and it is time to fix that. Ok. Not entirely true. Those of you that know me have probably figured out that I would do anything for my family and friends but I'm talking about causes here or even relationships. I've never begged an ex to come back and never gotten in a shouting match because I cared so much about a topic that I would do anything to get my point across and change people's minds.

This seems like a good enough first entry into the blog. I hope you enjoy it if you have wandered here. If you are a friend that I told about this place hopefully I don't say too much to piss you off and you will still talk to me after I dump the contents of my brain here. We all know how random my thoughts can get. Good night All.
